Choose a stable storage spot
A shaded drawer or cupboard away from a hot window is easier to manage than a car console or a damp bathroom ledge. FDA notes that heat, moisture and changing storage conditions can affect cosmetics. A product that looks normal is not automatically guaranteed safe.
Keep the opening date with the product
Mark the date you first open the item and retain any manufacturer after-opening instruction. Our date tool is a reminder based on the interval you enter, not an automatic safety verdict. A use period for one formula should not be applied to a different lipstick.
Respond to a product change
If there is an unexpected smell, texture change or visible contamination, stop using the item and contact the brand. Do not add water or other ingredients in an attempt to restore it. Store the product information so you can identify the shade and lot if a problem needs reporting.
Before you decide
- Keep caps and applicators clean.
- Record the opening date.
- Use product-specific guidance rather than a universal shelf-life chart.
